Earth Day 2008

Hey Fifth Graders!

Earth day is coming! Earth Day is on April 22nd. This day was first celebrated in 1970, when kids and adults marched in parades and shared their concerns about our planet. Now we celebrate Earth Day every year on the 22nd.

Here is your question..... What do you think is the Earth's most serious problem? Why? What can kids and grown- ups do to help?

Please respond by Monday..... the 21st, just in time for Earth Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Fifth Graders-

Did you know?

......About 3% of pet owners will give Valentine's Day gifts to their pets?

.......The first Valentine gift was sent by Duke of Orleans to his wife, after he was captured in 1415?

......Every year around 1 billion cards are sent across America. After Christmas it’s a single largest seasonal card-sending occasion?

.............Cupid, another symbol of Valentines Day, became associated with it because he was the son of Venus, the Roman god of love and beauty. Cupid often appears on Valentine cards holding a bow and arrows because he is believed to use magical arrows to inspire feelings?

What is some thing that you will love forever? Family? Pet? The outdoors? Soccer?

Please write three or more sentences, explaining details on what you will love forever.

Fifth Grade Kindness Retreat

Fifth Graders-

What did you think of the kindness retreat? What did you like? Learn? What about kindness were you reminded of as you listened and discussed with other students?

In the blog, over the next few days, I want you to respond to what you thought and think about making a pledge.... what will you pledge to do, so you can demonstrate that you are a kind person, in what you say, do, and think?

Be honest, yet sincere and respectful!

Disease Research

Fifth Grade Students:

Your job in the next week is to find ONE fact about your disease that you plan to research. Look on the internet, in a book, check out some books from the library! Please write your ONE fact in a complete sentence on the blog.

Example:

Influenza is a highly contagious disease. Three things that you need to make sure that you do not get the disease are wash your hands, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, clean things that are touched, and avoid others that are sick!
